Bollywood filmmakers Madhur Bhandarkar, Sanjay Gupta and Punit Malhotra today hailed the Supreme Court’s judgement striking down the section 66A of the IT act, which provides power to arrest a person for posting allegedly “offensive” content on websites.

The apex court upheld the freedom of expression while announcing the verdict today. Bollywood filmmakers took to Twitter to express their happiness over the news.

“66a gone… Great news! The Supreme Court seems to be the only hope!” tweeted Punit.

“Shootout at Wadala” filmmaker Sanjay tweeted, “Sec66A S C R A P P E D. Now this is good news.”

“Thank you #SupremeCourt for striking down of #66A of IT act. Hope #CBFC chief realises the change,” Ashoke Pandit tweeted.
