IndiGo on Friday said it has converted 30 of its 70 purchase rights for Airbus A350-900 aircraft into firm orders, aiming to expand its presence in the long-haul international market.
With this move, the Gurugram-based airline has doubled its wide-body order from 30 to 60 Airbus A350-900 jets. The airline and Airbus had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the additional 30 aircraft at the IATA AGM in June 2025.
“The conversion of this MoU into a firm order for 30 additional A350-900s is a testament to our confidence in the future of Indian aviation and our strategic partnership with Airbus, further reinforced by the strong start of our long-haul operations,” said Pieter Elbers, CEO, IndiGo.
These aircraft will play a pivotal role in expanding IndiGo’s reach, connecting India to more global destinations, and offering new international travel opportunities to its customers, he added.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, EVP Sales of Airbus Commercial Aircraft, said: “This milestone reinforces our strong partnership with one of the fastest-growing airlines in the world, and we look forward to supporting their expansion into new long-haul markets.”
The A350-900 jets will be powered by Rolls-Royce’s Trent XWB engines.
As part of its agreement with Rolls-Royce, IndiGo will also sign a TotalCare Agreement for comprehensive, round-the-clock engine health monitoring, proactive maintenance, and optimised operational performance throughout the fleet’s lifecycle.
