Amazon India has launched Amazon Diagnostics, an at-home diagnostic service in collaboration with Orange Health Labs, an accredited diagnostic provider. This service is currently available in six cities, including Bengaluru, Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. With seven labs involved, Amazon Diagnostics offers over 1,000 diagnostic tests.
Amazon Diagnostics aims to provide healthcare solutions that includes teleconsultation clinics, medicine delivery, and accredited testing.
Jayaramakrishnan Balasubramanian, category leader for Amazon Medical, stated that they will maintain price parity and focus on customer experience rather than compete purely on price”.
“We launched the Pharmacy business about two and a half years ago, and it has grown very quickly. It’s one of the fastest-growing segments for Amazon in India. We didn’t want to limit ourselves to just the pharmacy. Recently, we launched Amazon Clinic, which provides access to virtual doctor consultations, and now we are introducing the third aspect, Amazon Diagnostics, which completes our healthcare offering,” he said.
Customers can use Amazon app to consult a doctor, undergo diagnostic testing, and order medicines. “We are launching this service first in India, as a unique Amazon initiative for this region, in partnership with Orange Health Labs,” he added. The diagnostic services feature doorstep sample collection within 60 minutes and provide digital reports within six hours for routine tests.
Amazon Pharmacy has become one of the fastest-growing segments in the Amazon ecosystem, offering prescription medications and healthcare essentials across all serviceable PIN codes in India, the company informed.
Amazon Clinic, which is similar to OneMedical offered by Amazon in the US, has been active for six months and has seen strong demand, particularly for pediatric and veterinary consultations. “In the last six months, we’ve doubled our user base, and we’re continuously experiencing robust growth,” Balasubramanian stated.
In India, Amazon Clinic operates entirely online, allowing customers to consult doctors from over 10 specialities for 100 different conditions, including pediatric and veterinary. This platform has also been used by those looking for privacy for sexual and mental health consultations. All these services are accessible directly through the Amazon app. The company has onboarded 40 to 50 doctors and plans to expand as demand increases.
Five-year-old diagnostic company, Orange Health Labs, is backed by Accel, General Catalyst, Bertelsmann India, Y-Combinator, with $ 50 million in funding.
