Amul announced on Wednesday that it will increase the price of various milk variants by Rs 2 per litre, effective from Thursday, May 1, 2025. The price hike applies to Amul Standard, Amul Buffalo Milk, Amul Gold, Amul Slim n Trim, Amul Chai Mazza, Amul Taaza, and Amul Cow Milk.

This move follows a similar price increase by Mother Dairy, which raised milk prices by up to Rs 2 per litre starting on Wednesday, April 30.

Impact of price hike on consumers

With this increase, a litre of Amul milk will cost Rs 2 more starting tomorrow. The price of various milk variants will now be adjusted accordingly in markets across India. The hike comes amidst rising costs in the dairy sector, which have impacted milk producers and companies.

Mother Dairy milk prices

Earlier this week, Mother Dairy had announced a price hike of up to Rs 2 per litre for all milk variants, including full cream, toned, double-toned, and cow milk. For example, the price of Mother Dairy’s full cream milk has risen to Rs 69 per litre, up from Rs 68.

Amul’s growth

Despite the price increase, Amul is experiencing significant growth. Amul’s Managing Director, Jayen Mehta, shared that the company’s turnover for FY25 is Rs 66,000 crore, and it expects to close FY26 with Rs 1 lakh crore. Additionally, Amul is forecasting double-digit growth in ice cream sales in 2025 and is expanding globally, particularly with an emphasis on protein-based products.
