In a groundbreaking initiative, Swedish manufacturers Morakniv, Alleima, Rondo Plast, and TK Pac have joined forces to create a knife largely crafted from recycled materials. The result is the Morakniv Basic 546 SE, an eco-conscious alternative for craftsmen who value quality and sustainability. This collaboration yields a durable, high-quality knife for the construction sector, manufactured entirely in Sweden.

“The concept of developing a knife with a reduced climate footprint while maintaining high quality emerged last year. Motivated by a shared commitment to innovation and sustainability, the collaboration aimed to offer craftsmen new options,” stated an official statement issued by the collaborators.

One notable feature of the Basic 546 SE is its omission of a polymer sheath, allowing users to replace only the knife itself and reducing waste. Instead, a 100 percent recycled cardboard transport cover safeguards the knife. The blade is crafted from Swedish stainless steel Alleima 12C27, boasting a recycling rate of 90 percent, while the handle comprises 70 percent recycled polymer.

All companies involved have production facilities in Sweden, ensuring the product’s quality. Moreover, these facilities are powered partially or entirely by green energy, further enhancing the collaboration’s sustainability credentials.

Mats Östling, Chief Business Development Manager at Morakniv, highlighted the shared goal of creating a more sustainable alternative. Alleima’s Sustainability Manager, Mikael Silver, underscored their commitment to using recycled steel to minimize environmental impact.

Morakniv, with a legacy dating back to 1891, has been producing top-quality knives in Mora, Sweden, for over a century. The company’s blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology ensures the production of genuine, high-quality knives.

Alleima, based in Sandviken, specializes in advanced stainless steels and alloys, prioritizing recycling to reduce environmental impact.

Rondo Plast, a part of the Polykemi Group, focuses on recycling industrial waste to produce quality-assured granules for new production, prioritizing function, quality, and durability.

TK Pac designs and produces packaging using recycled cardboard, contributing to sustainable packaging solutions.

Together, these companies exemplify the potential of collaboration to drive eco-friendly innovation, offering consumers a greener choice without compromising on quality.
