The Indo-US joint military exercise, Yudh Abhyas 2024, is currently in full swing in Rajasthan (Sept 9-21, 2024).  This year’s exercise emphasizes peacekeeping, counter-terrorism, and operational synergy between the two nations.

In the initial days, the focus was on command post exercises designed to enhance civil-military coordination and humanitarian efforts, aligning with UN peacekeeping mandates. This segment allowed both Indian and US forces to discuss expectations and strategies for effective peacekeeping missions.

Counter-terrorism training is a significant aspect of this year’s exercise, reflecting the shared priorities of both nations. The joint training modules included urban operations and counter-insurgency strategies, incorporating lessons learned from their respective conflict zone experiences. Troops engaged in fire and movement drills, close-quarter battle training, and counter-drone exercises to improve their operational readiness against emerging global threats.

The exercise also featured a dynamic Field Training Exercise, emphasizing practical combat skills and real-world scenario responses. Indian and US military engineers collaborated on field engineering tasks, enhancing interoperability between the two forces.

Live fire exercises demonstrated the integrated firepower capabilities of both nations. US M-777 Ultra-Light Howitzers and Indian artillery units conducted coordinated live firing drills, showcasing precision in high-intensity environments. Advanced systems like the PINAKA Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher, alongside air support from Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) and Apache AH-64 helicopters, highlighted the operational synergy between the two armies.

Beyond tactical drills, Yudh Abhyas 2024 has also facilitated cultural exchange, strengthening the bond between the participating forces. The exercise will conclude with a comprehensive live-fire demonstration, showcasing the joint operational readiness achieved throughout the event.

Overall, Yudh Abhyas 2024 underscores the commitment of India and the US to bolster their defence collaboration and readiness, contributing significantly to global peace and stability.
