President Droupadi Murmu led the nation on Monday in honoring the heroes of the 1971 war, which resulted in the creation of Bangladesh as an independent country. The war ended with the surrender of over 90,000 Pakistani soldiers on December 16, 1971, bringing an end to the violence inflicted by the Pakistani army on millions of Bangladeshis. India observes December 16 as Vijay Diwas, a day to remember this historic victory. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to the brave soldiers, emphasising that their sacrifices will inspire future generations and be forever remembered in India’s history.

President Murmu, who also serves as the Supreme Commander of the armed forces, said that the soldiers’ ultimate sacrifice would forever be a symbol of national pride. She paid tribute to them by highlighting their unwavering courage in securing India’s victory. President Murmu expressed the nation’s gratitude for their sacrifice, noting that their inspiring stories would continue to motivate every Indian and remain a source of pride for the country.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also paid tribute to the fallen heroes by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial. He acknowledged the crucial role of India’s armed forces in keeping the country safe. Singh emphasised that the nation would always remember their service and sacrifice. Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan also paid tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives in the war. He praised the dedication, resolve, and commitment of all serving personnel, veterans, and ‘Veer Naris’ for their enduring contributions to the nation.
