Close on the heels of the recently concluded maiden 2+2 India-Brazil Dialogue, Jindal Defence Systems Private Limited (JDSPL) has initiated operations in its cutting-edge firearms manufacturing plant located in Hisar. This is a collaborative venture with Taurus Armas S.A., a leading firearms manufacturer based in Brazil. Under the brand name JD Taurus, JDSPL is poised to revolutionize India’s firearms manufacturing landscape and diminish the country’s dependence on imported weaponry.
Abhyuday Jindal, a scion of the esteemed O P Jindal family, has made investments in the company, further solidifying its foundation. Spanning over two acres, the facility represents a fusion of global expertise and state-of-the-art technology. With an annual production capacity of up to 250,000 weapons, JD Taurus is strategically positioned to cater to the escalating demand within the country. In the upcoming financial year, the company aims to produce 25,000 to 30,000 firearms. Designed for rapid scalability and product diversification, JDSPL has obtained all requisite regulatory approvals and clearances, including those from the Ministry of Home Affairs. Stringent quality control measures, reflective of Taurus Armas’ standards, have been implemented throughout the manufacturing process, encompassing design, integration, testing, and firing checks.
Addressing the significance of indigenous manufacturing and aligning with the ‘Make in India’ initiative, Col Amit Baveja (Retd), Chief Business Officer of JD Taurus, emphasized the company’s commitment to bolstering the nation’s defense capabilities while nurturing local talent and fostering socio-economic development in the region. The primary focus remains on equipping the government sector, particularly the military, para-military forces, and various state police units, with superior weaponry to meet evolving demands.
JD Taurus has garnered certifications for a diverse range of products, with significant value addition in India for various items, including rifles, carbines, submachine guns, machine pistols, and revolvers. Salesio Nuhs, the Global CEO of Taurus Armas, expressed pride in commencing production at the joint venture facility in Hisar, citing confidence in the combined strengths and technological advancements to meet the evolving needs of the defense sector.
The facility is equipped with a dedicated shooting range for rigorous testing, ensuring the reliability of each firearm and adherence to stringent quality control measures. Additionally, quality labs for metallographic and meteorological testing have been established, alongside an assembling area managed by an Access Control System. Guided by ISO 9001 and 27001 standards, JD Taurus places significant emphasis on quality throughout every stage of production to ensure consistent and reliable firearm manufacture. Strict safety protocols are in place to safeguard employee well-being, while highly skilled personnel maintain precision and quality standards in manufacturing processes.
