India Mozambique Tanzania (IMT), a joint maritime trilateral (TRILAT) exercise, which started from March 21 has entered into the Harbour phase. INS Naval ships Tir and Sujata have reached the ports of Zanzibar (Tanzania) and Maputo (Mozambique) respectively to engage with the respective Navies and further collaboration.
With this the second edition of India Mozambique Tanzania (IMT), joint maritime trilateral (TRILAT) exercise flags off and will conclude on March 29.
This edition of the exercise is planned in two phases i.e. Harbour phase and Sea phase. The harbour phase is scheduled from 21-24 March and the second phase is sea phase scheduled from 24-27 March.
The exercise would begin with a Planning Conference followed by conduct of joint Harbour training sessions including Damage Control/Fire Fighting, Communication,Visit Board Search & Seizure procedures & medical emergencies emphasising on CASEVAC drills
The sea phase of the exercise covers practical aspects of countering asymmetric threats, Visit Board Search and Seizure procedures, boat handling, manoeuvres and firing exercises.
During the sea phase the exercise would also be a part of a joint Exclusive economic zone (EEZ) surveillance. At Nacala (Mozambique) the exercise will conclude with a joint debrief.
Indian Naval ships would be open for visitors during the harbour stay. With that they would also be eligible to partake in sports & cultural exchanges with host Navies.Training visits are also planned at the respective ports for sea trainees of 106 Integrated Officers Training Course.
The First Training Squadron of the Indian Navy was conducted last year on Oct 22 which saw the participation of INS Tarkash with the Tanzanian and Mozambique Navies.
