Indian and Malaysian armies have commenced their joint bilateral training exercise “Exercise Harimau Shakti 2023” in Umroi Cantonment.
The Malaysian Army contingent, consisting of troops from the 5th Royal Battalion of the Malaysian Army, is collaborating with the Indian contingent represented by a battalion of THE RAJPUT REGIMENT. This exercise is a continuation of the previous edition that took place in Pulai, Kluang, Malaysia, in November 2022.
According to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Defence on Monday (Oct 23, 2023) “Exercise Harimau Shakti” is scheduled to run until November 5, 2023, engaging approximately 120 personnel from both sides. Its primary objective is to enhance military capabilities for conducting Multi Domain Operations in sub-conventional scenarios. Throughout the exercise, both contingents will establish a Joint Command Post and an integrated surveillance grid, along with a Joint Surveillance Centre.
The exercise will focus on the coordinated deployment of joint forces in various environments, including jungles, semi-urban, and urban areas. Additionally, it will encompass intelligence collection, collation, and dissemination exercises.
Modern technology, such as Drones/UAVs and Helicopters, will be integrated into the training, and casualty management and evacuation drills will be practiced. Logistics management and survival training at the battalion level will also be key components of the training.
The primary emphasis during the training will be on achieving a high level of physical fitness, conducting tactical drills, and sharing best practices with each other. The exercise will culminate in a challenging 48-hour validation exercise set in a semi-urban environment.
“Exercise Harimau Shakti” represents a significant effort to enhance defense cooperation between the Indian Army and the Malaysian Army. Beyond military objectives, it aims to foster stronger bilateral relations between these two nations, solidifying the bonds of collaboration and friendship that have been developed over the years.
