PROMPERU, the Commission for the Promotion of Peruvian Exports and Tourism, is the official tourism promotion board of Peru. They have introduced an exciting and innovative initiative – the inaugural roadshow, showcasing 15 top Peruvian companies in India. This event aims to boost tourism promotion in the vibrant Indian market. The roadshow will take place in two major cities – New Delhi and Mumbai.

Scheduled for October 13th and 16th in New Delhi and Mumbai, respectively, this exclusive roadshow according to a top diplomat at the Embassy of Peru represents a significant step forward in building stronger business relations between Peru and India.

This event is focused on promoting cultural exchange, fostering business collaborations, and facilitating tourism partnerships. It will host 14 prominent Peruvian companies and aims to interact with a minimum of 50 potential Indian travel companies in each city.

Attendees can look forward to engaging in workshops, which are designed to encourage meaningful partnerships, enhance lead generation, facilitate the exchange of products and ideas, and educate Indian travellers about the incredible opportunities that await them in Peru.

At a press meet in New Delhi on Thursday (Oct 12, 2023), Luis Cabello, the Commercial Counsellor of PROMPERÚ in India, expressed his excitement about this endeavour, stating, “We are delighted to bring the essence of Peru to India through this unique roadshow. Our goal is to create a platform where the Indian and Peruvian tourism sectors can thrive together. This event offers a structured format for fruitful discussions, exploring meaningful possibilities, and establishing partnerships. We are committed to empowering Indian travellers with the knowledge they need to make Peru their next dream destination.”

He added, “India’s vibrant spirit and diverse culture make it an ideal canvas for showcasing Peru’s rich heritage and unmatched experiences. We see India as a great market where the wonders of Peru can truly come alive, capturing the hearts of every traveller.”

The framework of the roadshow is a pre-fixed meeting format, where each travel agent will be given 15 minutes for one-on-one constructive discussions, creating opportunities for transformative journeys. “This roadshow is more than just an event; it is a testament to the enduring and growing relationship between India and Peru,” he added.

According to Javier Paulinich Velarde, the Ambassador of Peru to India, “Peru, with its diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage, offers a variety of transportation options for travellers. From trains, cruises, and planes to exploring the country, Peru is an easily navigable destination. Two of the most popular destinations in Peru, Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca, are accessible via affordable intra-country flights and the rail system.”

Whether Machu Picchu is at the top of your bucket list, or slow travel through Peru is your preference, traveling by train is a terrific way to truly experience the country. Additionally, luxury river cruises in the Amazon offer one of the best ways to explore this enchanting region.

Peru boasts a remarkable natural landscape, with 17.5 percent of the country declared as natural protected areas, home to some of the world’s most unique and preserved landmarks and landscapes. With 76 Natural Protected Areas, 21 Regional Conservation Areas, and 134 Private Conservation Areas, Peru provides a wealth of destinations, communities, and adventures to explore with the confidence of an ethical and environmental footprint.

One of the most significant enigmas of the archaeological world, the Nazca Lines, can be found in Peru. These massive ancient geoglyphs etched into the desert floor of the Nazca plateau in southern Peru continue to puzzle scientists. Despite extensive research, the purpose behind the Nazca Lines remains a mystery. One theory suggests that the lines served as an astronomical calendar, with certain figures aligning with the positions of celestial bodies at certain times of the year. Another theory suggests that the designs were used in religious rituals or as a form of pilgrimage.

Food in Peru

Food enthusiasts have a lot to rejoice about in Peru. The country is known for its culinary delights, including the famous Pisco sour. Pisco itself has a protected designation of origin, much like Champagne or Cognac from France.

Only pisco fermented in the coastal valleys of Lima, Ica, Arequipa, Moquegua, and Tacna can be called “pisco.” Beyond the national drink, Peru is a foodie’s paradise, offering tantalizing produce in local markets, the freshest ceviche at casual cevicherias, dishes from the Amazon, vegetarian delicacies, and much more. Whether you have adventurous tasting habits or prefer classic favourites, Peru’s culinary scene has something for everyone.

While Spanish is the official language of Peru, most of the tourist destinations have information available in English, including menus and signs. This makes it super easy for travellers to navigate and communicate while exploring the country.
