An Embassy team consisting of three senior officials and an interpreter has arrived in Krasnoyarsk to support passengers from an Air India flight en route to San Francisco that made an emergency landing in the city on Thursday, July 18, due to a technical issue, according to the Embassy of India in Russia.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the Embassy of India in Russia wrote, “The team is actively coordinating with airport and security authorities, as well as representatives from the Russian Foreign Ministry, to ensure that all necessary assistance is provided to the stranded travellers.”

The Embassy team will remain in Krasnoyarsk until a replacement aircraft from Air India arrives to continue the passengers’ journey to their destination. Their presence is intended to ensure a smooth transition for the passengers and to provide any necessary support during this unexpected delay. The team will assist with any immediate needs and help coordinate the next steps for everyone affected, it further added.

The airline has clarified that the aircraft was diverted and made a precautionary landing in Russia after the cockpit crew identified a potential issue in the cargo hold area. The aircraft landed safely, and no injuries were reported.
