As the Diwali week begins, banks in several parts of the country will remain closed on October 20, 21, 22, and 23 for the auspicious occasions of Laxmi Pujan, Deepawali, Govardhan Pooja, and Bhai Dooj. Here are all the details.

Banks closed today, October 20, in these cities

On October 20, banks will remain closed in parts of India including Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Itanagar, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, New Delhi, Panaji, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vijayawada.

Consecutive bank holidays from October 21 to 23

On Monday, October 21, which marks another day of Diwali celebrations including Laxmi Puja and Govardhan Puja, banks will be closed in Belapur, Bengaluru, Gangtok, Guwahati, Imphal, Jammu, Mumbai, Nagpur, and Srinagar.

On Tuesday, October 22, banks will remain closed in Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Dehradun, Gangtok, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Shimla.

The following day, October 23, will also see bank holidays in Ahmedabad, Gangtok, Imphal, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Shimla on account of Bhai Dooj, Chitragupt Jayanti, and related festivals.

Bank holidays vary from state to state, depending on local festivals and regional customs. While branches will remain closed on the above dates in certain regions, online banking, ATMs, and digital payment systems such as UPI and net banking will continue to function as usual. Customers are advised to plan their offline visit accordingly.

Fourth Saturday and Sunday to be routine bank holidays

October 25 is the fourth Saturday, so banks across the nation will be closed as part of the routine holiday. Following this, on October 26, banks will also remain shut across the country for the regular Sunday holiday.

Banks to remain closed on October 27, 28, and 31 for regional festivals

Chhath Puja will lead to bank closures on October 27 and 28 in states such as West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand, including cities like Kolkata, Patna, and Ranchi.

On October 31, banks in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, will remain closed to mark Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary.
