Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) in Jewar which is currently under-construction is set to become Asia’s largest airport. The airport’s development aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision to enhance connectivity and cultivate a forward-looking aviation sector. Within this expansive vision, Uttar Pradesh (UP) holds a particular spotlight, as it’s experiencing the establishment of several new international airports. Notably, this includes the inaugurated Kushinagar airport and the ongoing construction of an international airport in Ayodhya.

Noida International Airport: Features and Amenities

The NIAL airport is set to establish a comprehensive Ground Transportation Centre, which will incorporate a versatile transit hub. This hub will encompass metro and high-speed rail stations, taxi services, bus connectivity, and private parking facilities. This integrated infrastructure will facilitate effortless access to the airport via road, rail, and metro networks. Noida and Delhi will enjoy seamless metro connections to the airport, ensuring convenient transportation. Furthermore, the airport will be seamlessly connected to major nearby thoroughfares such as the Yamuna Expressway, Western Peripheral Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway, and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, among others. Notably, it will also be linked to the planned Delhi-Varanasi High-Speed Rail, reducing the journey time between Delhi and the airport to just 21 minutes.

Yogi govt to transform Uttar Pradesh into Aviation hub

The Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh is launching a transformative scheme aimed at establishing the state as a thriving aviation hub. This ambitious project will unfold on a vast 1,000-acre of land adjacent to the Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) in Jewar which is currently under-construction.

The scheme envisions the creation of assembly and manufacturing units for both aircraft components and entire airplanes. Notably, a multitude of foreign companies, including those from the United States, are expressing keen interest in setting up their units here.

NIAL, set to become Asia’s largest airport, is taking shape in this location. By evolving into an aviation manufacturing hub, India not only gains the capability to repair its own aircraft but also positions itself to offer maintenance and repair services for aircraft from other nations. Historically, India has had to rely on foreign countries for aircraft repairs.

These units are planned to be established on plots of 5 acres each, with larger plots available for anchor units. To facilitate this endeavor, an Aviation Manufacturing Scheme is in the pipeline. This scheme is designed to incentivize aircraft assembly companies, engine manufacturers, nozzle producers, and other aviation equipment manufacturers to establish their operations here.

Attracting foreign investment with FDI Policy

Arunvir Singh, the CEO of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), has revealed that land acquisition for the second phase of Noida International Airport, spanning 1,365 hectares, is currently underway. This expansive area will be developed into a Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) and Aviation Hub.

Moreover, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has recently promulgated an FDI policy to attract foreign companies. This policy offers substantial benefits, including a 75 percent land subsidy, capital subsidies up to Rs 100 crore, 100 percent state GST reimbursement for a decade, and financial support of Rs 5,000 for seven years for up to 500 individuals engaged in patenting, training, and skill development.

Customs exemptions for importing equipment from abroad are also part of this policy, rendering it highly enticing for foreign investors and aviation hubs.

Designing the future: PwC takes the lead

The task of designing the layout for the development of the aviation manufacturing industry at Jewar International Airport has been entrusted to PwC. Once the layout is prepared, a meeting of the NIAL Board will be convened to make decisions regarding the implementation of this scheme. This initiative is anticipated to create job opportunities and materialize the vision of establishing an aviation manufacturing and MRO hub.
