Vistara is forging ahead with its ambitious growth plans, expressing confidence in receiving its last Boeing 787 wide-body jet by March or April 2024.
Vistara CEO Vinod Kannan, speaking on a media call, revealed the accelerated timeline for achieving a fleet size of 70 aircraft by March or April 2024, surpassing the previous goal of reaching this milestone by the end of 2024.
Vistara, a joint venture between the Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, commenced operations in 2015 and currently operates a fleet of 67 jets, comprising mostly single-aisle Airbus A320s and five Boeing 787s.
Merger’s legal approval by first half of 2024
Kannan expressed confidence in obtaining all necessary legal approvals for Vistara’s merger with the larger carrier Air India in the first half of 2024, with the goal of merging operations no later than mid-2025.
Despite recent developments concerning the Boeing 737 MAX 9, particularly an incident involving an Alaska Airlines plane, Kannan assured that Vistara is closely monitoring the situation but clarified that it would not impact their operations.
In a separate development, India’s aviation regulator conveyed satisfaction with the safety checks conducted by domestic airlines operating the Boeing 737 MAX 8, following the incident involving Alaska Airlines. This reassurance from regulatory authorities underscores the commitment to ensuring the safety and reliability of the Boeing 737 MAX series within the Indian aviation sector.
