Air India flight’s auxiliary power unit catches fire: An Air India flight from Hong Kong caught fire shortly after landing at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday, July 22, sparking brief panic but resulting in no injuries. All passengers and crew members on board disembarked safely.

The incident involved Flight AI 315, which landed in Delhi in the early hours and experienced a fire in its auxiliary power unit (APU) after arriving at the parking gate. The APU, which provides power to the aircraft when engines are shut off, reportedly caught fire as passengers were beginning to disembark.

In an official statement, an Air India spokesperson said, “Flight AI 315, operating from Hong Kong to Delhi on 22 July 2025, experienced an auxiliary power unit (APU) fire shortly after it had landed and parked at the gate. The incident occurred while passengers had begun disembarking, and the APU was automatically shut down as per system design.”

The spokesperson added that while there was some damage to the aircraft, all passengers and crew exited the aircraft safely and without incident. “The aircraft has been grounded for further investigations and the regulator has been duly notified,” the statement read.

Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) confirmed that the fire was promptly doused and that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.

Authorities have ensured that safety protocols were followed and emergency teams were on standby during the incident. Further updates from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) are awaited.
