In a significant escalation following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, India on Wednesday issued a Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM), closing its airspace to all Pakistan-registered, operated, or leased aircraft, including military flights. 

The restriction, effective from April 30 to May 23, 2025, bars Pakistani aircraft from entering Indian airspace, signalling rising tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours.

Pakistan shuts airspace for Indian airlines

In retaliation, Pakistan closed its airspace to Indian airlines last week and formally rejected India’s recent move to suspend a key water-sharing treaty. These tit-for-tat decisions come amid mounting diplomatic friction triggered by the Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives, marking the deadliest strike on civilians in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
