The Navi Mumbai airport is scheduled to commence its operations in March next year, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said on July 13. Today, the minister visited the airport and reviewed the ongoing work.

Once complete, the airport will improve connectivity with neighbouring Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Kalyan, and western Maharashtra, Mohol said, adding that the airport is expected to see an annual footfall of nearly 20 million passengers.

Mohol seemed positive on naming the airport after late PWP leader DB Patil.

Compensation for project-affected persons

On the issue of compensation for project-affected persons, Mohol assured that this issue will be resolved through discussions with the management.

“We are committed to ensuring that people who have contributed land for the airport project are not displaced,” the minister clarified.

Pune International Airport

In a post on X, Mohol said he inspected the preparations at Pune Intl Airport’s new terminal building on July 12. “After completing all technicalities, the terminal is all set to be functional from this Sunday, 1 PM onwards,” he wrote.

Highlighting the use of cutting-edge technologies and advanced facilities, he added the terminal also showcases Pune’s “ rich cultural heritage”.

“Given the future development of the city, the terminal has a capacity of catering to 90 Lakh passengers annually,” he added.
