Kushinagar International Airport achieved a major milestone with the arrival of state-of-the-art Instrument Landing System (ILS) equipment.
The long-awaited installation of this advanced technology, specifically the RTS-734 CAT-I system, will enable precision landing and safety for aircraft navigating the skies, particularly during challenging weather conditions and nightime operations.
Announcing the details, the Airports Authority of India (AAI), “At AAI’s Kushinagar, a pivotal moment unfolded as the long-awaited and cutting-edge ILS Equipment recently arrived at the airport. Soon, with the installation of this (RTS -734, CAT-I) equipment, the airport will witness a new era of advanced aviation technology.”
Understanding the ILS technology
The significance of the ILS equipment lies in its ability to guide aircraft safely and accurately to the runway, even when visibility is poor or during the darkness of night. ILS is a standard International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) precision landing aid that is used to provide accurate azimuth (angular measurement in a spherical coordinate system) and descent guidance signals for guidance to flight for landing on the runway under adverse weather conditions.
The technology utilises a combination of radio signals and precision instruments to provide pilots with real-time guidance, enabling them to approach and land with enhanced precision and confidence.
With the installation of the RTS-734 CAT-I system, Kushinagar International Airport will now offer pilots the capability to conduct Category I instrument approaches, further bolstering its status as a modern and efficient aviation hub.
