The Union Minister of Civil Aviation Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu launched the Centenary Celebrations of Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport by inaugurating the UDAN Yatri Cafe, a coffee table book, and a Centenary Postal Special Cover. These initiatives have been taken to celebrate the airport’s 100-year milestone while enhancing passenger experience and showcasing India’s rich aviation history.
The ‘’UDAN Yatri Cafe’’, a pilot project launched as part of transformative initiatives by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Airport Authority of India (AAI) provides high-quality food varieties to travellers and is budget-friendly. This project will enhance the travel experience for passengers and at an affordable price.
A Centenary Postal Special Cover, My Stamp along with a Souvenir Coin tributing the airport’s 100-year legacy was also featured during the celebration. A coffee table book depicting India’s cultural heritage through modern airport architecture was also unveiled. The book also showcases a visual narrative of India’s progress in the field of aviation.
Preserving legacy through exhibition and tributes
A photo exhibition was also held displaying rare images of Kolkata’s Airport’s historic journey during the event. The photo gallery highlighted the evolution of India’s most iconic airports. Moreover, the dignitaries along with the Union Minister also participated in a signature campaign to observe the airport’s legacy and wrote heartfelt messages to mark the occasion.
The ceremony commenced by paying floral tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and also conducted a tree plantation drive headed by the Minister and other guests, representing a commitment towards sustainable growth. For their contribution to the airport development, employees of AAI, including representatives of the airline, CISF personnel, and key airport stakeholders were honoured.
During his public address, the Union Minister underscored Kolkata’s role as the ‘’City of Joy’’, which is famous for its rich culture and its hospitality. He also hailed the NSCBI Airport as a proud witness to India’s civil aviation journey, serving as a gateway to interlink Kolkata with other parts of the country.
The NSCBI Airport spreads 1,566.3 acres and was made in an area of 230,000 square meters. It serves 26 million passengers yearly and interlink 49 domestic and 15 international destinations. With its state-of-the-art cargo terminal, the airport plays an essential role in stimulating economic growth and connects India to global markets.
