In a significant development aimed at boosting regional connectivity, Haryana’s Civil Aviation Minister, Kamal Gupta, announced plans to elevate Karnal into a prominent domestic air travel hub across India. Speaking on Thursday, Gupta revealed ambitious plans to upgrade the Karnal aerodrome into a fully operational domestic airport in the coming months.

Gupta held discussions with officials from various departments in Karnal regarding the proposal to construct a domestic airport in the city. According to an official statement, he provided guidance to the officers to accelerate the implementation of this project

Gupta expressed that Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar are dedicated to improving convenience for Karnal residents through the domestic airport project.

Thorough inspections and challenges

To support this initiative, thorough inspections of Karnal aerodrome were conducted, and officials were instructed to tackle any existing challenges that could impede the progress of the project.

During his visit, Gupta also reviewed the workshop, runway, and other essential facilities at Karnal aerodrome, as stated in the announcement.

The Haryana minister mentioned that surveys are underway at Karnal, Ambala, Pinjore, Narnaul, and Bhiwani, where airstrips ranging from 3,000 to 4,000 feet are being assessed.

Under the Regional Connectivity Scheme, the feasibility of establishing domestic airports is being explored based on the findings from these surveys.

He stated that discussions with officials will ensue after completing the surveys of all airstrips, and domestic airports will be developed wherever feasible.
