Low-cost carrier IndiGo on Saturday announced the launch of its daily direct service between Delhi and Guangzhou, China, commencing from November 10, 2025. This move marks a crucial step in the gradual restoration of air connectivity between the two countries after a gap of almost five years.
The airline said that the new route would be operated using its Airbus A320 aircraft, boosting connectivity between the national capitals of two of Asia’s fastest-growing economies.
The announcements have been made in view of the Ministry of External Affairs’ (MEA) confirmation earlier this month that direct flights between India and China would resume. The development has been described by both sides as an important step toward normalising post-pandemic and post-Doklam relations.
A spokesperson from the Chinese Embassy had earlier reasserted Beijing’s commitment to the gradual reopening of commercial air connectivity with India.
Potential for cultural and trade ties
IndiGo had already launched daily Kolkata-Guangzhou services, slated to begin from October 26, and the new Delhi-Guangzhou connection marks a further expansion of its network in East Asia.
Vinod Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, stated that the airline was “pleased to boost connectivity to China with daily direct flights between Delhi and Guangzhou,’’ as quoted by ANI. He further added that the reopening of travel between “two of the world’s most populous nations presents immense potential for cultural exchange and economic collaboration”.
New connectivity to South Asia is also planned
The flight from Delhi will depart at 9:45 pm and will reach Guangzhou at 4:40 am, whereas the return trip will leave Guangzhou at 5:50 am and will land in Delhi at 10:10 am. Flyers can avail the tickets for this route from the airline’s website.
IndiGo has also planned to announce daily direct flights between Delhi and Hanoi from December 20, 2025expanding its footprint in Southeast Asia. The airline already runs 14 weekly flights from Kolkata to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and will deploy its A320 fleet on the new route as well.
