IndiGo on Tuesday announced a major expansion of its Europe network, unveiling new routes and fleet plans. Beginning October 8, 2025, the airline will launch direct flights from Mumbai to Copenhagen (Denmark), further strengthening its international presence.

In a separate release, IndiGo revealed that Athens (Greece) will be the inaugural destination for its first Airbus A321XLR aircraft. With this milestone, IndiGo will become the only Indian carrier to operate direct flights between India and Greece.

The airline aims to commence six weekly non-stop services to Athens by early January 2026, pending regulatory approvals. Once cleared, IndiGo will operate three weekly flights each from Delhi and Mumbai, making it the first carrier to connect Athens directly with both Indian metros.

IndiGo plans to operate three weekly flights on the route using its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, taken on wet/damp lease from Norse Atlantic Airways. With this, IndiGo further expands its international network into Northern Europe, making Copenhagen its 44th international and 138th overall destination.

IndiGo to unveil India’s first A321XLR Airbus

The airline is all set to bring home India’s first A321XLR by the end of 2025, which will serve as the prime carrier for passengers wishing to book direct flights from Delhi/Mumbai to Athens in 2026. The A321XLR is a next-generation narrow-body aircraft designed for longer routes, as it boasts an 8,700 km range and enables non-stop flights from India to Southern Europe with greater efficiency.

The launch of Athens as IndiGo’s first XLR destination comes at a time when the India-Europe aviation market is growing, driven by both business and leisure demand. Pieter Elbers, CEO for IndiGo, said that the launch of the new aviation corridor marks a strategic step in IndiGo’s international expansion and aligns perfectly with India’s growing economy and tourism industry.
