An IndiGo flight from Madurai to Chennai experienced a windshield crack shortly before landing on Saturday. The pilot detected the damage and immediately informed the Air Traffic Controller at Chennai airport.
Airport authorities made necessary arrangements, and the aircraft landed safely, officials told PTI. The plane was then moved to a separate bay (Bay No. 95) for parking and passengers disembarked without incident.
Efforts are underway to replace the windshield, though the cause of the crack remains unclear. Following the incident, IndiGo has cancelled the return flight to Madurai. The airline has not yet issued any statement regarding the matter.
Another incident
In a separate incident on the same day, an Akasa Air flight from Pune to Delhi, operated on a Boeing 737 MAX 8, experienced a bird strike on Friday. The aircraft landed safely in Delhi and is currently undergoing inspection before being cleared for further operations.
Flight QP1607 arrived in Delhi just after 10 am, with all passengers and crew safely deplaned, according to Flightradar24 data. An airline spokesperson confirmed that the plane is undergoing a thorough examination by Akasa Air’s engineering team as part of standard safety protocols and will only resume flights once the inspection is complete.
“Akasa Air flight QP1607 flying from Pune to Delhi on October 10, 2025, experienced a bird hit. The aircraft landed safely, and all passengers and crew members were deplaned,” the spokesperson told PTI.
The same aircraft was originally scheduled to operate a later flight from Delhi to Goa but was delayed by a few hours, with a replacement plane deployed for the route, PTI reported.
