India’s civil aviation sector has experienced rapid growth over the past decade, and the next goal is to establish the country as the top global domestic aviation hub, said Union Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Friday.
While launching the centenary celebration logo for Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, Naidu highlighted that the past ten years have been remarkable for India’s aviation sector, marked by the expansion of airports and a significant rise in passenger numbers.
“Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, we have pushed all the boundaries, and now we are the third largest domestic country a civil aviation hub in the whole world itself, and now we need to take it forward,” Naidu said.
He emphasised the need to break new barriers and elevate India’s civil aviation sector to be the number one domestic hub globally. “We need to break the barriers once again, level up the civil aviation sector in the country, and achieve to be the number one domestic hub in the whole world,” he added.
UDAN scheme
Naidu also praised the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, calling it a revolutionary initiative that has made air travel accessible to millions of people, with over 600 flights operating in the last eight years under the scheme.
“The civil aviation sector, we believe, is one of the growing sectors in the country, and the kind of effect it has on the economy, we have seen in the last 10 years,” the minister said.
From the point of economic growth or job creation, it is a very important sector, he added. Naidu concluded by reaffirming the sector’s growing importance and the challenge of further advancing it over the next five years.
“So we have the challenge of taking it to a new level in the next five years,” Naidu said.
