Union Minister for Communications and Development, Jyotiraditya Scindia, announced that India aims to build at least three international aviation hubs in the next ten years. Highlighting the country’s rapid advancements in multiple sectors, Scindia emphasized that these hubs will solidify India’s standing in global aviation.
Speaking at the 51st National Management Convention in New Delhi, Scindia, who has previously served as the Aviation Minister, said, “In the next decade, India will not only have one but at least three international hubs.” He shared the stage with Jitin Prasada, Minister of State for Commerce, Industry, Electronics, and IT, during a discussion on India’s growth amid global uncertainty.
India’s Aviation and Infrastructure Growth
Scindia highlighted India’s significant growth in aviation infrastructure, noting that the number of operational airports has more than doubled from 74 in 2014 to 159 in 2024. He also pointed out that Delhi Airport now manages 109 million passengers annually, making it the second-largest airport globally in terms of capacity.
Digital and Social Progress
In addition to aviation, Scindia praised India’s progress in poverty alleviation and public health initiatives. He highlighted the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, which has provided health insurance to over 28.5 crore people, and the Ujjwala Yojana, under which around 10 crore women have received free LPG connections. Scindia also pointed to India’s digital revolution, with a significant rise in broadband users, widespread deployment of optical fiber, and reduced data costs. India now accounts for 46% of global digital transactions, underscoring its growing role in the global digital economy.
