In back-to-back incidents, two IndiGo flights departing from Delhi were diverted mid-air this week due to technical snags, prompting the airline to issue a clarification on safety procedures and passenger welfare.

On Thursday, IndiGo flight 6E 5118 from Delhi to Imphal was forced to return to the Indira Gandhi International Airport shortly after take-off following a minor technical issue. The pilots opted to turn back “as a precautionary measure,” and the aircraft landed safely.

“In line with the mandatory procedures, the aircraft underwent necessary checks and resumed the journey shortly thereafter,” an IndiGo spokesperson said in a statement. “Inconvenience caused to our customers is regretted. As always, safety and security of the customers, crew and aircraft is of utmost importance to us,” the statement added.

No injuries were reported, and passengers were assisted during the delay. However, the airline did not disclose the exact nature of the issue.

Just a day earlier, flight 6E 6271 from Delhi to Goa was diverted to Mumbai after a technical snag was detected mid-air. The aircraft, which was scheduled to land at Manohar International Airport in Goa, was rerouted to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport as a safety precaution.

An alternative aircraft was arranged to complete the journey. “We regret the inconvenience caused to our customers due to this unforeseen situation,” the spokesperson said, echoing the airline’s emphasis on safety protocols.

Both incidents ended without harm, and IndiGo reiterated that safety remains their top operational priority.
