Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (September 12) announced that air taxis will soon become a reality as the government prepares the country for advanced air mobility. Speaking at the Aviation Ministerial Conference, PM Modi highlighted that the expanding middle class is a key driver for the growth of the civil aviation sector.

UDAN made air travel inclusive

Under the regional air connectivity scheme UDAN, which has made air travel more accessible for lower middle-class individuals, 14 million people have flown, PM Modi said. He emphasised that the expanding middle class and their rising demand are key drivers for the civil aviation sector. 

While addressing the Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on civil aviation, the prime minister said, “Regional air connectivity scheme UDAN made air travel inclusive. Civil aviation sector has major role in economic growth.” 

The two-day conference, which began on Wednesday, convenes transport and aviation ministers, regulatory bodies, and industry experts from across the Asia Pacific region. Approximately 300 representatives from 29 countries are participating in the event.
