Following the reopening of several airports that were temporarily closed due to escalating India-Pakistan tensions, Air India and IndiGo have announced the resumption of flight operations to and from key cities.
Air India took to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, confirming that it is working towards restarting flights to Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot. The airline expressed appreciation for passengers’ understanding while their teams work on restoring operations to normal.
“Following a notification from aviation authorities on the reopening of airports, Air India is working towards progressively commencing flights to and from Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot. We appreciate your understanding at this time as our teams work on bringing operations at these airports back to normal. Please stay tuned for further updates,” Air India stated.
Earlier in the day, IndiGo also confirmed the reopening of the airports that had been closed due to the heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. The airline announced that it would gradually resume flights to previously affected routes, including Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Kishangarh, and Rajkot.
“In line with the latest government directives, the airports are open for operations. We will progressively commence operations on the previously closed routes,” IndiGo stated in its travel advisory. The airline also informed passengers to expect possible delays and adjustments as services gradually return to normal.
IndiGo further extended flexibility to customers by offering change and cancellation fee waivers for travel to and from the affected airports until May 22, 2025, encouraging passengers to regularly check their flight status for the latest updates.
Meanwhile, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) issued a statement confirming the lifting of the temporary closure of 32 airports across northern and western India. Initially, these airports were set to remain closed until May 15, 2025, but the closure has now been lifted, and civil aircraft operations can resume immediately.
“Attention Flyers: reference notice issued for temporary closure of 32 airports for civil aircraft operations till 05:29 hrs of 15 May 2025. It is informed that these airports are now available for civil aircraft operations with immediate effect. It is recommended for travellers to check flight status directly with airlines and monitor airline’s websites for regular updates,” the AAI press release stated.
As normalcy returns to the aviation sector, both Air India and IndiGo are working towards resuming operations on previously suspended routes, and passengers are urged to stay informed through official channels for further updates.
