Expanding footprints in the domestic aviation sector, Tamil Nadu-based Madurai Airport recently celebrated a milestone with the inaugural flight route to Mumbai. The direct flight service will be operated by low-cost carrier Air India Express Airlines.

The addition of this flight marks a significant development in the airport’s journey towards enhanced connectivity and regional progress.

“AAI’s Madurai Airport is emerging as a dynamic airport, soaring to new heights with the addition of new flight connections,” Airports Authority of India (AAI) mentioned on X. 

Flight Number IX1998 arrived from BOM(Mumbai) at 18:00 hrs and reached Madurai Airport as it started the domestic flight operations, the official handle of AAI Madurai Airport (IXM) mentioned on X.

The commencement of Madurai-Mumbai direct flight represents a notable advancement for Madurai Airport, which has been gradually expanding its operations and services in recent years.

With the inclusion of the Mumbai route, passengers now have access to a convenient and efficient travel option between two major cities in India.

Located approximately 12 kilometers from the city center, Madurai airport plays a pivotal role in facilitating air travel for residents and visitors alike.

By establishing direct air connectivity with Mumbai, one of the India’s foremost economic and commercial hubs, Madurai Airport is slated to witness increased passenger traffic and tourism inflow.
