The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has collaborated with the Union Territory Administration of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to oversee the operation and maintenance of the Car Nicobar and Campbell Bay airports. As per the accord, ‘Flybig’, a Gurugram-based private airline firm under Big Charter Private Limited has been selected to operate between Car Nicobar and Campbell Bay. The fixed-wing aircraft has a sitting capacity of 19. Flybig started functioning in December 2022 and is known for connecting tier-two cities in northern and northwestern India.

Secretary of Civil Aviation for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration, Vishwendra mentioned that AAI will be heading the overall management of the airports for an initial period of five years and it can be further extended for another five years on both party’s consent.

All about the deal  

The agreement was hailed by the Airport Director Devendra Yadav as he saw this as a major step taken forward for civil aviation. He hopes that this tie-up will immensely contribute to boosting air connectivity and promoting regional growth. ”This remarkable partnership marks the onset of operations at Car Nicobar and Campbell Bay airports in the Nicobar district, heralding a new era of air connectivity and regional development,” Yadav added.

The deal was signed on Monday in the presence of N V Subbarayudu, Executive Director-II (JVC/PP) of AAI, and Vishwendra, Civil Aviation for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration. According to Vishwendra, similar contracts were made between North Andaman and Shibpur Airport under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme.
