Amid heavy rains early Friday, six individuals sustained injuries when a portion of the roof at Terminal-1 of the Delhi airport collapsed onto several cars, including taxis, amid torrential rains. The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) reported the incident, noting that a search operation is currently underway to ensure no one else is trapped in the wreckage. A man who was injured in the Delhi airport roof collapse incident has tragically died during treatment at the hospital, according to police officials.

What happened at the airport?

The roof sheet and its support beams fell, causing significant damage to vehicles parked in the pick-up and drop area of the terminal. All injured individuals have been taken to the hospital for treatment, the officials said.

Among the injured, one person was rescued from a car struck by a fallen iron beam. DFS officials dispatched three fire-tenders to the scene after receiving a distress call around 5:30 am.

As a precautionary measure, flight departures from Terminal-1 have been suspended following the roof collapse.

Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu took to X (formerly Twitter) to provide updates on the situation. “Personally monitoring the roof collapse incident at T1 Delhi Airport. First responders are working at site. Also advised the airlines to assist all affected passengers at T1. The injured have been evacuated to hospital. Rescue operations are still ongoing,” he stated.

The airport authorities and emergency responders continue to work diligently to manage the aftermath of the incident and ensure the safety of all passengers and staff at the terminal.
