The Unorganised Workers Bill, 2004, rechristened as the Unorganised Workers? Social Security Bill, will get the Cabinet nod on Thursday. The amendments to the legislation, a promise of the UPA government in its common minimum programme, will brought in the monsoon session scheduled in next month.
The Bill will benefit about 40-crore unorganised workers in the country, if gets Parliament?s nod. Most of the suggestions of the parliamentary standing committee has also been incorporated in the Bill.
??In tune with the recommendations of the standing committee the Bill is being renamed ?Unorganised Workers? Social Security Bill? so that the benefits are not restricted to workers in the unorganised sector but also get extended to such unorganised workers as are in the organised sector,?? labour minister Oscar Fernandes said in a letter to CPI Lok Sabha MP Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy.
