Despite US Federal Reserve downgrading its outlook for the US economy and most Asian markets ending the day in the red, the domestic equity indices managed to close with marginal losses.

The BSE Sensex closed at 17,730, down marginally by 0.14%, while the broader 50-share NSE Nifty ended the day on a flat note at 5,321, down just 0.05%. With the broader market remaining positive throughout the day, the BSE mid cap and small cap index rose 0.12% and 0.17% respectively.

Foreign institutional investors (FII) buying gave support to the market. Provisional data by stock exchanges showed that (FII) purchased equities worth Rs 1,153 crore taking their total investment to over $2 billion in June. DIIs sold shares worth Rs 894 crore.
