While all eyes are on the possible launch of Apple?s new iPhone early next month, there is considerable buzz about another device from Apple?s main rival, Samsung, that could also create waves in the market. And it?s not the new Samsung Galaxy Note ?phablet?. The market talk is that an upcoming event in Berlin will see the launch of two new Samsung products, the phablet as well as a revolutionary smartwatch called Galaxy Gear. Industry insiders, including reputed Samsung source SamMobile, are confident in their prediction that the Korean company will introduce the Galaxy Gear watch along with their Note III. Earlier, another Samsung-dedicated website, GalaxyClub, had reported that the company had filed for a new patent with the US Patent and Trademark Office for a new smartwatch just last month.
According to the patent document as reported by the website, the description for the device states, ?Wearable digital electronic devices in the form of a wristwatch, wrist band or bangle capable of providing access to the Internet and for sending and receiving phone calls, electronic mails and messages.? Another agency report said Samsung has applied for patents in both South Korea and the US, and that drawings from a Samsung design patent show a watch-like design with a flexible screen that curves around the wrist. Samsung had shown off its flexible display at CES 2013 in Las Vegas. They also confirm it will run on an Android system. In fact, all the top tech companies from Apple to Google, Microsoft, Sony and Motorola are working on a smartwatch that can do everything a cellphone can. If Samsung is able to hit the market next week, it will give them the first-mover advantage over their rivals. Smart.
