The import of edible oils in December 2007 was reported at 2.77 lakh tonne compared to 3.67 lakh tonne in December 2006, down by 25%, according to the Solvent Extractors? Association of India (SEA).
The overall import of vegetable oil for the period November to December 2007 was reported at 7.33 lakh tonne compared to 7.42 lakh tonne in the same period last year, consisting of 6.24 lakh tonne of edible oil and 1.09 lakh tonne of non-edible oil.The overall import of edible oil during first two months of current oil year (2007-08) has marginally increased from 6.20 lakh tonne to 6.24 lakh tonne in spite of better crushing and domestic availability of vegetable oils while non-edible oil decreased from 1.22 lakh tonne to 1.09 lakh tonne.
