The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) has found Uttar Pradesh, one of the most backward states in the country, to be a ?Rainbow of Opportunities?. Releasing the study titled the same here at a press conference on Sunday, Assocham president, Venugopal N Dhoot said that the study has been submitted to chief minister Mayawati.

According to the study the state is poised to attract additional investment opportunities worth Rs 2 lakh crore and create job opportunities for its 2.5 million youths by 2010 in about a dozen identified areas, including food processing-agro-based industries, heavy engineering, petrochemicals, real estate, retail, expressways, besides, IT, textiles-cotton yarn & silk and sugar.

In this connection Assocham has decided to ?adopt? Uttar Pradesh in 2008 as it did West Bengal in 2007 and help bring in fresh investment in various sectors. For this, the chamber has set up a special team to market the state nationally and internationally. The chamber has also suggested that the state has the potential to export IT & ITE services worth Rs 5000 crore every year and to create 8 lakh new jobs in the sector by 2010.
