Very soon, Uttar Pradesh will have bus terminals that are not only clean and free of congestion, they will also be equipped with the best amenities available on the road.

In a bid to improve the quality of road transport facilities and provide international-level passenger amenities to the people of the state, the Uttar Pradesh government is envisaging the development of bus stations-cum-commercial complexes infrastructure at their existing bus terminal properties at 242 locations in the state under public private participation (PPP). A total investment of Rs 2,200 crore would be needed for the project, which is to be developed under design-build-finance-operate-transfer (DBFOT).

All the bus stations have been divided into viable bid parcels with each parcel containing approximately 15-20 terminals each having a unique advantage of being either a key tourist destination, an industrial cluster, an administrative hub or a cultural place.

According to sources in the transport department, developer would be given a concession period of 33 years and the existing land of the transport department to develop these bus terminals and stations. ?A pre-bid conference is slated for tomorrow and we are expecting a good response. The last date for submitting technical bids is July 8,? said an official.

As per the plan, the private sector is expected to modernize the existing bus stations into the state-of the-art terminals. While the ground floor will be used as the bus station, the developer can develop it vertically to house commercial complexes through which it can generate additional revenue.

According to the tender, a maximum of 27 bus stations would be constructed in the Taj city of Agra, followed by 22 in Etawah, 19 in Gorakhpur, 18 each in Lucknow and Bareilly, 17 in Moradabad, 16 in Varanasi, 15 each in Aligarh and Faizabad, 14 each in Allahabad and Kanpur, 13 in Ghaziabad and 12 in Azamgarh. A total 16.39 lakh sq meters of land would be used for construction of these bus stands.
