After nearly a decade and a half, Uttar Pradesh finally got a finance minister. Chief minister Mayawati allocated portfolios to the newly-inducted ministers on Thursday and entrusted her trusted lieutenant Kamla Kant Gautam with the finance portfolio.
Since forming the government in May, Mayawati had kept the finance department to herself. The last time Uttar Pradesh had a finance minister was in 1991 when Rajendra Gupta looked after the department during Kalyan Singh’s regime.
The other cabinet ministers who were allotted portfolios today are the new
cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta, who has been entrusted with the portfolios of institutional finance (excluding trade tax), stamp and court Fee, Chandrika Ram
Yadav got Small Industries, while Ashok Kumar will look after Land Development and Water Resources.
Of the state ministers with independent charge who were administered oath on Wednesday, Bhagwati Sagar has been given charge of employment while Jaiveer Singh will look after department of flood control and water treatment.
Of the four state ministers who were given cabinet ranks, Badhashah Singh has been alloted labour department, Anant Kumar Mishra medical and health, Rangnath Mishra secondary education and Abdul Mannan, science and technology.
