In order to remove the imbalances in urban areas, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to implement the Total Urban Development Scheme (Manyawar Kanshiram Shahri Samagra Vikas Yojna) in those urban areas which are far removed from development. About Rs 15,000 crore will be spent over a period of five years.

A decision to this effect was taken at a cabinet meeting headed by the chief minister. Addressing media persons at the CM’s official residence, Mayawati said around 1.75 crore people living in urban areas would benefit from the scheme and beginning this fiscal, the government will spend Rs 2.5 crore each year for the next five years.

“One fourth population of the state lives in urban areas and nearly 40% of the urban population lacks civic amenities. The state is of the opinion that the concept of urban rejuvenation is incomplete without the upliftment of poor of ‘Sarvasamaj’ living in cities.” said Mayawati.
