Acer?s Aspire TimelineX Series offers more than just time: it gives you more than 8 hours of excellent performance in a thin-light design, and packs the Intel Core processor family. TimelineX is very portable at less than one inch thick, yet available with powerful graphics and an high definition (HD) wide screen, so no matter where you go, you?ll have a clear view of digital life.

Basically, the Taiwanese major?s Timeline Series has evolved from the power saving laptops into mainstream performance laptops renamed as the Timeline X Series. To accomplish this, Acer has replaced ultra low voltage processor of earlier series with Intel Core i5 processor along with dedicated graphics. The company has gone all out on the designing of the laptop with a brushed aluminum finish on the lid and palm rest.

The overall build could have been sturdier with unwanted flexing present in certain areas. But it can be forgiven since the 4820TG is an all rounder beating some laptops in the higher segment as well. The keyboard has nice flat keys providing satisfying feedback topped with a nice non slippery finish. The touchpad is accurate and smooth, but a tad oversensitive when multi-touch is applied. The left and right click rocker is a bit too tiny.

The diminutive profile conceals astonishing power beneath it. Applications run blazingly fast and most 3D applications including games can run with ease, thanks to ATI Radeon HD 5650 graphics. This experience was further confirmed with great score in 3D Mark 06 and 3D Mark Vantage benchmarks, 4820TG gave a decent score of 7646 and P3502 in these benchmarks (in respective order).

There is one more interesting feature about the graphics capability of this laptop; one can switch between ATI Radeon and Intel HD graphics (present inside Core i5). This interesting feature though helps in enhancing battery life of laptop is also reason for few negative points; when you try to switch between two modes by right clicking and selecting ?Configure Switchable Graphics?, the switch is not smooth. Further if you are using a graphical application even a native Microsoft Windows 7 game and decide to switch to Intel HD graphics, you have to close your application which can turn out to be annoying at times.

Moving from graphics to battery performance, this laptop is still far ahead from others with a battery backup of nearly 6 hours. Finally the overall performance of this machine when checked using PC Mark Vantage benchmark comes out to be 5384 which is again a great score. 4820TG comes with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit edition which is again a plus for it. With a whopping 500 GB of hard drive space, you don?t have to worry too much about space. On connectivity front, this laptop comes with 802.11n wireless adapter, Bluetooth and Gigabit Ethernet card. It is furnished with Dolby home theatre speakers along with a VGA, four USB and one HDMI port.
