Bangalore based Grover Vineyards, known internationally for their celebrated wines, especially the flagship brand La Reserve, launched their products in Punjab for the first time here on Friday.
The portfolio includes Shiraz Rose, Cabernet Shiraz red wine, Viognier Clairette white wine, Sauvignon Blanc white wine, Sante Chenin Blanc and Sante Shiraz and are priced between Rs 450 to Rs 625. While the market up-north is still nascent for wines, trends suggest that drinking wine is fast catching up especially among the young generation and women. As of now the company has launched its products in Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, apart from Cochin.
Thomas Sauzet, GM-marketing, Grover Vineyards, told FE that the company is hoping to sell about 1500 cases in Punjab, primarily Ludhiana and Chandigarh market annually. The company which did a turnover of Rs 20 crore last year selling 800,000 bottles, is hoping to do 1.2 million bottles this year and a 25 per cent growth in turnover. Located across 400 acres at Nandi Hills region on the outskirts of Bangalore, the company also plans to significantly add to its capacity this year and take it up to 1.8 million bottles per annum, revealed Sauzet.
“At present the company is also exporting to France and UK and would shortly start exporting its products to Canada and US. It is also planning to have a complete packaging makeover to give the products a more vibrant look. The company also boasts of having as its consultant the world renowned Michel Rolland, the foremost wine consultant in the world who has over 100 clients in 12 countries,” he said.While wine drinking is still to catch up, there has been a gradual shift towards wine drinking, which has led to a 40 per cent growth in the wine industry across the board. “To further promote wine drinking, the company plans to hold training and tasting sessions in various cities regularly,” added Sauzet.
