Scan documents on the spot, wherever you are?in the office, in the field or on the go. Scanning has never been so easy before. Portronics has made this possible, thanks to their product called the Scanny 3. This lightweight and compact device is claimed to be India?s first Bluetooth portable scanner and one of the first ones that is compatible with all three devices; laptops, mobiles and tablets. It is capable of scanning an A4 size document in less than 2 seconds by just swiping the device over the document and the length of the document can be as up to 127 cm, which is not possible for any flatbed scanner.
At the outset, Portronics seems to have a penchant for bringing out portable devices in new avatars. Scanny 3 is the latest hand-held scanner from the Scanny Series that boasts of the Scanny and Scanny 2. Scanny 3 is one of the slimmest gadgets and definitely the most compact scanner around. It has a small monochrome display with a big metal button to its right, which operates as scan button and also as the send button. On its right is the rechargeable battery slot. Then you have dpi button and colour/monochrome button, which also works as navigation key during Bluetooth mode. On the other side lies a switch to modulate between scan, Bluetooth and off.
Scanny 3 is as easy to operate as it looks and can scan any flat surface by running the device over the subject, after pressing the metallic scan button and then pressing it again after scan is done. The indicator, above it, will keep you noted of the scan. To scan a document, press the metal button, the blue light will glow and run the device over the document, after which press the metal button to stop scanning. To transfer the scanned file, push the switch from scan to Bluetooth, pair it with a mobile handset with 0000 as code, the blue indicator light next to it will flicker till it is paired. After pairing, press the metal button to send the data to the mobile phone, where scanned file will be saved on the micro SD card.
Scanny 3 can scan anything from an ordinary visiting card to A4 size documents at 300/600dpi. The scan can be taken in colour and monochrome and in both, the quality is impressive. The scan itself happens in 3-4 seconds. An impressive aspect of the scanner is its OCR support. With Abby Screenshot Reader, you can scan a document, let us say a business card, and can save the entire data into editable files in notepad or if they are more than one then in an excel sheet. The OCR facility is more or less accurate.
Scanny 3, like its predecessors, impressed us a lot. If anything that disappoints is its reliance on micro SD card for storage and not having any other mode of storage. So, in order to use it one must have a micro SD card. Also, pairing over Bluetooth and transferring the scan is a little time consuming. Overall, it is an impressive hand-held scanner. Imagine, all those visiting cards stacked in your drawer can now be scanned and converted into documents. At 6.5k, it is fairly priced, since other portable scanners come in the same range.
