The spice complex, led by pepper and chilli rose up to Rs 300 per quintal in the national capital on sustained buying by stockists on the back of encouraging advices from producing belts.

Fall in supplies against better demand from local parties also attributed to the rise in prices.

Black pepper prices rose by Rs 300 to Rs 14,500-14,800 per quintal, while chilli prices surged by Rs 200 to Rs 5,800-10,000 per quintal respectively on firm demand.

Jeera common and jeera best quality also increased by Rs 100 to Rs 11,400-11,700 and Rs 14,300-14,800 per quintal.

Traders said, besides festive and marriage season demand, firming trend in most of the spices in futures trading also gave push to rising prices.

Meanwhile, all the three running contracts August,October and December for chilli in futures trading hit upper limit by rising over 4 per cent.

Following are today’s quotations (in Rs per quintal): Ajwain 6,000-9,200, black pepper common 14,500-14,800, betelnut (kg) 84-93, cardamom brown (Jhundiwali) 20,000-20,200 and cardamom brown (Kanchicut) 22,500-25,500.

Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 550-650, cardamom (colour robin) 620-630, cardamom bold 650-665, cardamom extra (bold) 730-750 and cloves (kg) 260-295.
