Satyam Computer Services, which has a strong presence in North America, is now focusing on its presence in Latin America. The firm is expected to be seen in another two countries in Latin America. Gary Teelucksingh, senior vice president, RBU Americas, Satyam Computer services, said, ?We are currently looking at five countries in Latin America, of which we will identify two in another 12 months.? Satyam will set its sales and marketing operations and open a development centre in both the countries. ?These geographical operations will primarily look into the verticals of manufacturing and financial services for sure and into retail or telecom depending on the demand of the existing clients,? he added. Satyam wants to leverage the growing markets of Latin America like Brazil and Mexico that are expected to be leading economies in another 10-15 years. The firm seeks these areas as ideal near off-shore facility for North American companies due to flexible time zone and languages. Says Teelucksingh, ?Many of our global clients want to have a definite expertise from India and get delivered locally there in combination with Brazil or Mexico. In fact, many of our Indian clients want us to execute in these areas.? The firm is expecting to grow 100% in next the three years in Latin America.

…to focus on sports vertical

Satyam Computer Systems is now looking to gain expertise in the sports domain. The firm has recently tied up with the International Federation of Association Football – FIFA, a global governing body in Switzerland.

Satyam was initially handling a small extranet project- a web based access to the portal, for FIFA World Cup but will now officially be a IT service provider for two World Cup cycles- 2010 and 2014.

With this, Satyam will be providing solutions like access to zones, hospitality, schedules and event management systems. Hari Thalapalli, head-global marketing and communications, Satyam Computer Systems, said, ?The sports IT sector is an untapped sector in India and with this, we will get a breakthrough to understand the domain of sports and the role of IT in it.?

The firm is currently in talks with four global sports entities based out of the US and Europe and will finalise on them by June 2008. These entities could possibly be into activities like racing and basketball, besides others. It also has plans to tap a consequent viewership market in India. Making it a broader marketing platform, the firm, with the help of FIFA, will bring in programs to identify talent in India, create awareness about football as a career and develop talent. It is also looking at bringing in exhibition matches of premium football leagues in India.
