A refreshing look at city?s green canopy

A picture can say a thousand words, and in the process, capture a million moods. Keeping the green spirit of Chandigarh alive and in mind, a photo exhibition, Root Cause, on the majestic trees of the city will be held this Sunday.

?Various city-based photographers will showcase under the aegis of August Kranti and intellectual inputs from Yuvsatta, an NGO for the youth, pictures of trees, a vital blooming of Chandigarh,? says social activist and filmmaker Dr Gaurav Chhabra.

Trees, he feels, are the the natural heritage of Chandigarh and serve as important green landmarks. ?They help to create a sense of permanence and identity to the place we live in. Just as our Garden City, it takes decades and in some cases, more than a 100 years for these trees to mature gracefully in our landscape. As Chandigarh progresses, there is a danger of losing these mature trees. In view of this concern, the Heritage Trees Project was planned by Yuvsatta with an objective to conserve and to educate the community on the importance of protecting our tree wealth,? he refers to e excerpts taken from a recent Yusatta Report on city?s green cover.

The event would also see a mime act – ?Prakriti? by city based group ?Draamebaaz? on theme of environment and also live music by city based musicians. A non profit mobile cafe – ?Cafe Kaafi kuchh? will also be in action.

Catch Root Cause : A photo exhibition of ?Heritage Trees of Chandigarh? from 5 pm to 7 pm, August 22, Sunday near Eiffel-Tower Replica, Leisure Valley, Opposite Chandigarh Museum, Sector 10.
