Rock On will continue to dominate this week?s box office trade scenario, despite four new releases.
?Rock On, which released on August 28, seems to be going strong, with 30-40% collections,? said Bhumika Tewari, AVP programming, Fun Cinemas. Among the releases this Friday, A Wednesday has opened to 25-30% collections, Hijack 20%; Tahaan and What Happens in Vegas have seen 15% collections. ?We are expecting A Wednesday to pick up during the weekend,? said Tewari.
Besides Rock On, six other films including Wall-E, Wanted, Caramel, Mukhbir, C KKompany and Chamku were released on August 28. According to Box Office India trade network report, Chamku had opened to a poor 15-20% response and will struggle at the box office. C Kkompany had opened to 20-25% collections and stands little chance in the face of new releases. Mukhbir?s collections have been extremely poor at 0-5%. On the contrary, Rock On had opened to an excellent response of 80-85%.
Earlier films like Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam, Mumbai Meri Jaan and Phoonk did average business. Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam grossed Rs 2 crore in its first week. Mumbai Meri Jaan and Phoonk grossed Rs 2.50 crore and Rs 6.75 crore respectively, with the latter being declared a hit in Mumbai and the south.
Bachna Ae Haseeno, which released a week earlier on August 21, collected Rs 8.50 crore in week two, taking its net collections to Rs 30 crore. The film is a hit in Mumbai, semi hit in Delhi/UP, east Punjab, West Bengal and Mysore. Though not a major hit, it is the biggest success from the Yash Raj banner since Chak De India.
God Tussi Great Ho managed Rs 2.50 crore in week two; its net for the week stands at Rs 14 crore. Singh Is Kinng added Rs 7.50 crore in week three to take its net collections to Rs 69 crore.
The film is an ?all time blockbuster? in east Punjab, in Delhi/UP and Rajasthan, and a hit in other circuits.
On the overseas front, Rock On and Chamku could not make an impact overseas as they did business worth Rs 40 and Rs 20 lakh respectively. Bachna Ae Haseeno collected Rs 2.35 crore in the UK and Rs 3 crore in North America. Singh Is Kinng is still ruling the international markets; the film has grossed a total of Rs 32.50 crore overseas in 24 days.
