Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday issued strict instructions to get the illegal constructions, unauthorised Bandhs and encroachments blocking the natural flow of rain water removed within a month.
Reviewing the flood protection measures inview of record 144 mm rain in Punjab during last 24 hours and amidst forecast of 100 mm more rain in next 24 hours, Badal asked the chief secretary to issue strict instruction to all DCs to get the rivulets and drains cleared of all encroachments within next 30 days. Badal added a 24-hour control room with proper communication network should be activated, and all DCs should monitor the vulnerability of bandhs and strengthen those areas that required immediate attention.
