In tune with her development programme, Union railway minister Mamata Bannerjee on Sunday said that railway infrastructure will lead to job generation for lakhs of youths all over the country.
?We will make substantial progress in next two years in developing infrastructure for the railways. That would lead to job generation across the states,? she said.
?Industrial hubs adjacent to diamond freight corridor will have large amount of investment,? Mamata said.
Present at the flagging off ceremony of the ladies special train between Howrah and Bandel, she said that Duranta, or the non-stop train service, will start from August this year.
In the first phase trains in three routes-Delhi- Pune, Mumbai-Howrah and Delhi Howrah will start plying. ?While the journey will be cheaper than Rajdhani express, Duranta will take at least two hours less than that,? she said. Faster train service from Tughlaqabad is also scheduled to begin from August.
Meanwhile, she is also looking at developing a station at Jinanandapur, near Mandarmuni, a tourist destination en route Digha.
Construction work for the third line between Panskura and Kharagpur will begin on 9th August. She also promised ladies special train service in the Sealdah division soon.
