Mint, the business daily from Hindustan Times (HT) published in tie-up with The Wall Street Journal, has named R Sukumar, deputy managing editor, as the new managing editor. On Monday, Rajiv Verma, CEO, HT, circulated a mail among his senior colleagues, saying, ?I am delighted to announce that R Sukumar is being named managing editor of Mint, effective May 1, 2008. Sukumar takes over the managing editor’s title from Raju Narisetti, who, as editor, will still lead Mint’s editorial leadership team, which includes Sukumar.?
While Narisetti didn’t return FE’s calls for comments, Sukumar said that as managing editor, his responsibility will be “looking after the day-to-day operations of Mint, which is pretty much what my role as DME (deputy managing editor)
involves.”
“Raju and his editorial team will remain responsible for setting the overall direction and strategy for Mint. In addition, the editor of Lounge and the editor of Views section of Mint will continue to report primarily to Raju, as he focuses his time at HT Media on expanding the presence of Mint in print, online and video, by leveraging current and future growth opportunities. Raju, who is the primary reader/consumer interface for Mint on the news side, will continue to report to me,” wrote Verma.
Sources in Mint say that both HT and The Wall Street Journal administration wanted Narisetti to have a bigger profile in the company.
Earlier, Raju Narisetti had worked with The Wall Street Journal for 13 years in the US and in Europe.
Until June 2006, he was the editor of The Wall Street Journal Europe and deputy managing editor with overall responsibility of Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
He then took over as the editor of Mint, which was launched in February 2007. The Wall Street Journal is an exclusive content and business partner for Mint in India.
